Supporting Students with Diverse Learning Needs

At Grand Avenue State School we believe that all students can access and participate in the Australian Curriculum when their particular learning needs are met by targeted and responsive teaching.  All staff shares the responsibilities of identifying, documenting and implementing support provisions and reasonable adjustments through the collection of objective data, consultation with key stakeholders, and regular review.

Our school was planned and built to allow accessibility by students and community members with all levels of mobility.

The Special Education Program and support staff aim to provide a continuum of additional services and programs for the varying educational needs of students with disabilities, learners with English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D), gifted and talented students and students with learning difficulties by providing a flexible model of delivery.  This model involves a range of educational program options delivered across a variety of settings and considers content, environment, process and product.

Our special education teachers bring experience and expertise   in supporting students with Intellectual Disability, Speech Language Impairment, Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or Physical Impairment.  These teachers also work collaboratively with regional Advisory Visiting Teachers to assist in supporting the education needs of students with Hearing and/or Visual Impairment.

Parents are vital to our success as we work together to create a holistic approach to schooling and a smooth transition between home and school. Please do not hesitate to contact the Head of Special Education Services if you require any further information.
