Grand Avenue State School strongly believes that consistent, full-time attendance and punctuality on each school day are important characteristics of successful students. Our school community expects all students to attend school every day unless there is a reasonable explanation why the student cannot attend. Grand Avenue acknowledges that being on time and prepared to learn gives our students the best chance of success in the classroom as well as for their academic futures.
Absence Notification Process
Our preferred method for advising a student absence is through QParents. Parents/carers can advise on the day or for future dates and will need to provide a reason for the absence. If you are not yet registered with QParents, please email enquiries@grandavenuess.eq.edu.au to request an invitation code.
Alternatively, parents/carers can notify Administration of a student absence via email
studentabsence@grandavenuess.eq.edu.au or your child’s teacher. (Please note, if emailing the teacher, please cc the student absence email address to also notify Administration.)
Finally, the Student Absence Line can be phoned at any time on 3372 0560.
Parents/carers will receive a text message if the school has no recorded reason for an absence, advise us early so we know your child is safe.
It is important that children are at school and on time every day because every day counts.
Extended Absences
Extended absences from school, whilst not recommended, are sometimes unavoidable. If a student will be absent
for a period of more than 10 consecutive school days, an
Application for Exemption from Compulsory Schooling must be submitted to the Principal for approval.
Exemptions should be applied for, and a decision made on the application by the Principal, prior to the proposed exemption period. To support the application, parents/carers must provide supporting documentation, eg. flight itinerary, medical certificate, etc.
