Grand Avenue State School offers an Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) service to families. The service is programmed for students in Prep to Year 6.
The OSHC Service has been established in compliance with the Office for Early Childhood Education and Care. Compliance covers program standards, physical environments, safety and Educator qualifications. The program will address children's individual needs and interests and encompasses the Curriculum for School Age Children in Australia - My Time, Our Place.
Grand Avenue's Outside School Hours Care facility is located in Kauma Hall, entrance via Gate 2, Centennial Way.
We welcome the opportunity to work in partnership with you, sharing the exciting journey through Outside School Hours Care and providing your child with a safe, secure, supportive, challenging and stimulating learning environment.
How do I enrol my child at OSHC?
Parents interested in enrolling their children at Grand Avenue's Outside School Hours Care for before school care, after school care, or vacation care should complete an Expression of interest form (PDF, 77KB) and return it to the centre.
NB: children are re-enrolled each year and a new enrolment form will need to be completed and returned to the centre when requested.

Before school care
Our program
Our before school care (BSC) program is packed with fun programmed activities for the children and plenty of opportunities for free play and exploration. Children have the opportunity to participate in cooking, craft and group games in the hall.
Our breakfast table is a great space for a catch up over cereal and yoghurt or a Healthy Breakky Wrap. Inside the centre we have drawing stations, a book nook and a wonderfully stocked board game cupboard. When weather permits, we love to get moving in our outdoor spaces before heading up to School.
Breakfast
Breakfast in the mornings is supplied by the service between 7.00–8.00am. Children can choose from a variety of cereals, toast and fruit plus other healthy options each day. Weekly Menus are displayed in the hall and in the centre.
Transitioning to School
Children in Grades 2 and above are signed out at 8.30am where they are able to walk to their classrooms. Year 1 Children are walked to their classrooms and in Term 4 supported by Educators and Teachers to develop independence in their transitions in Semester 2. Prep Children are walked to their classrooms at 8.40am.
After school care
Our program
Our after-school care (ASC) program has something for everyone with a great combination of structured and child-initiated activities. Children have the opportunity to participate in our daily cooking, craft and sports activities. These can be viewed on our weekly program displayed at the Information Desk and on our website.
We love spending beautiful afternoons outdoors in the various playgrounds, Oval, Fitness trail or tennis court. In the centre you'll find us in the book nook, talking strategy over a chess game or creating inventions on our Lego tables.
Throughout the afternoon unstructured play is available to all children including board games, ball games, drawing & imaginary play. It is the children's program and we love to hear children and families suggestions about what activities they would like to see offered.
Each afternoon Grand Avenue OSHC will provide students with the opportunity to complete their homework in the centre, supervised by an Educator. Please see our friendly staff if you would like your child/ren to participate in our Homework Club. NB: this is not tutoring nor can we provide one-on-one assistance with homework.
Afternoon tea
Grand Avenue OSHC provides afternoon tea for the children upon arrival at ASC from 2.45–3.15pm. Children can choose from a variety of food, fruits and vegetables.
Each day we offer a healthy choice menu item after an exciting afternoon at Grand Avenue OSHC, we know that our children can work up an appetite. A light selection of fruit is served again at 4.45pm. Weekly menus are displayed in the centre/kitchen and on our Facebook Page and Kidsoft.
Transitioning from school
Prep children will be collected from their classroom by Educators and walked to ASC for the entire year. Year 1 children will be collected from their classrooms by a staff member and walked to ASC for Terms 1, 2 and 3. They will be supported by Educators to develop independence in their transitions in Term 4. All other children will walk directly to ASC when the bell rings.
Extra-curricular activities
The children have the opportunity to participate in various extra-curricular school activities at both BSC and ASC. If your child attends tennis or music lessons, or sports trainings etc please complete an Extra activity form and return to the centre before the activity commences.
Our team
Our friendly and passionate team of Educators aim to provide a creative, encouraging and enriching environment for our children and families. We work collaboratively with children to provide play, life skills and leisure experiences that support them to develop their strengths, build relationships, create, construct and explore. We love our program and the children do to, so much so, that some of our Educators are past students who attended our service.
P&C Association
The Grand Avenue State School Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) is the approved provider for Grand Avenue State School OSHC.
The P&C Executive Committee consists of elected representatives and these volunteers are parents of our school community. All parents are welcome to attend the monthly P&C Committee meetings, contribute ideas and suggestions, and be involved with the direction and organisation of the Program and the P&C involvement in our school community.
Meetings are generally held Monthly, February to November, on the third Tuesday of each Month from 7.00–8.30pm in STEAM room. We value your Feedback and encourage both Parents and children to provide feedback and suggestions to us at anytime via the communication book, email or conversations. We also utilise suggestion boxes, questionnaires, evaluations and surveys to gather feedback and suggestions.
