Teaching and learning

With our vision as the basis for our Curriculum Framework, GASS teaching and support staff implement a curriculum based around the following pedagogical principles:

High expectations – of our students and staff in striving to grow,  achieve and succeed

  • Student Diversity – knowing, valuing and planning for the diverse needs of our student learning community

  • Productive Partnerships - ensuring that students, parents & the wider community know and are involved in contributing to the best learning outcomes for students.

  • Explicit Teaching - implementation of lessons is based on the Explicit teaching sequence of “I do, we do, and you do” in order to scaffold successful student learning.

Units of work are developed at a school level in the remaining key learning areas of The Arts, Technology and Health & Physical Education that address the Essential Learnings outcomes from the QCAR framework.

Specialist lessons taught by specialist staff in Music, Japanese LOTE (years four, five and six) and Physical Education, as well as science in some middle school year levels complement this program of instruction.

Our whole school curriculum framework is organised into overviews by year level.  This framework supports consistency within and across year levels and delivers a vertically & horizontally aligned curriculum.
