2016 Canberra Tour update

25/11/2016

Day 4 was a busy day, starting at Parliament house where students had the opportunity to view the Senate and the House of Representatives. Students also engaged in a role play of debating and voting for a bill.  Milton Dick MP met with the students and informed them that he is looking forward to attending the GASS Year 6 Graduation.  After some other locations, the groups met again at the War Memorial, viewed and engaged in many displays and paid their respects at the Last Post Ceremony.  The evening then finished the week at Questacon.  A big hit with everyone.
Friday is expected to be an early breakfast and travelling by bus to Sydney.  Our flight QF530 departs Sydney at 2pm with expected arrival in Brisbane at 2:30pm.  We hope to arrive at Grand Avenue at approximately 3:30pm or soon after.  Any updates on the arrival time will be posted on the notice board outside the school. It has been an awesome week and the students have many stories to tell.

Day 3 in Canberra was mostly rainy and windy but it didn’t stop the GASS travellers from having a great time at the CSIRO, National Gallery, High Court of Australia and Royal Mint .  Both groups met again at the National Arboretum of Canberra where the sun came out for the students to play on the equipment.  After dinner, the Australian Institute of Sport was a highlight for many.
Tomorrow, Thursday Nov 24, the Grand Avenue students will attend Parliament House, the War Memorial and in the evening, Questacon.  The Last Post Ceremony at the War Memorial will be streamed live at 4.55pm (3.55pm in QLD) for those who might be interested in catching a glimpse of Grand Avenue students paying their respects to Australians who have lost their lives in war.

Day 2 for the GASS Canberra tour saw Coach A and B visiting different venues, with both groups meeting up at dinner time and going together to the Telstra Tower.  Busy and hot.....and there are many differing opinions regarding favourite locations.
